Offering visitors a unique taste of mountain life, the village of Stowe has a quaint feel that sets the perfect atmosphere for a relaxing holiday. This pretty little mountain resort has plenty of leisure facilities and entertainments at any time of the year. For hotels Stowe has a wide selection ranging from small family run inns to huge country houses and spas.

The history of Stowe can be precisely tracked to its origins when the Luce family moved here in March 1793. They arrived in the valley when it was nothing more than dense forestland surrounded by fertile plains and the small family built a one-bedroom cabin. Over the years things have changed considerably but the history of the village can be seen in the historical Society Museum, which is open Friday to Saturday for a few hours in the afternoon. As the village grew the stagecoach began to travel here and the people followed, later history can be seen in Bloody Brook School, which is also a museum.

In modern times Stowe is a bustling village with year round attractions and the marked difference between the seasons attracts visitor's here year after year to see the natural beauty of the mountain. During the summer months there is horse riding, hiking and walks to name but a few activities and there is a world-class golf course to keep even the keenest golfers happy. On really hot days the best way to relax is by taking a splash in one of the little streams that run through the land or even better take a trip to the famous Ben and Jerry's ice cream factory where you can watch how this iconic brand of ice cream is made and even better you can sample the many flavors that have been created. During Fall the views across the village are nothing short of spectacular with the trees turning a dramatic mix of red and orange colors which in turn carpet the ground with a sea of fallen leaves. Vermont is well known for its magnificent autumn season but Stowe is the highlight of the area. Despite its year round beauty, the resort is best known for its winter pursuits and the snowboarding and skiing here is fantastic but with sleigh rides, snowshoeing and even dog sledding there is plenty more to do and experience. The best thing about Stowe is the family atmosphere here that is achieved with its quaint old-world feel.

There are plenty of shops in the village so you can stock up on the essentials, whether that is ski gear, hiking equipment or you just need a hot chocolate to warm you up. The best thing about shopping here is that the shops are all owned by people that live here which means there are none of the chain stores or international fast food restaurants found in other resorts. All that you will find in Stowe is plenty of good quality shops with unique products and restaurants that serve real food. A couple of unique shops that should be explored are Laughing Moon Chocolates and Boyden Valley Winery Tours. The chocolate shop has demonstrations every day where you can learn how to make the delicious hand dipped chocolate creations that are sold in the shop. Boyden Valley Wineries are a day trip in themselves, there is a petting zoo and playground for children and a corn maze to lose yourself in as well a market hall where they sell local produce and don't forget the actual tour of the winery!

For hotels Stowe once again holds its reputation as a family resort but has plenty of romantic hideaways for couples that take a vacation here too. Hotels provide everything guests could need with many of them boasting heated indoor swimming pools and fitness facilities as well as some locations even offering yoga and dance lessons. In their hotels Stowe tends to favor an alpine lodge style of décor, which is reminiscent of those that nestle in the hills of Europe. Hotel rooms are well-equipped and spacious with many of them having televisions and mini bars. The hotels that are high in the mountains often have on site restaurants and bars so that you don't have to venture away from the cozy heat of a log fire in the evenings after a long day on the piste.
